Amoxil (amoxicillin) is an antibiotic that belongs to the penicillin group of drugs. It is prescribed to patients with gonorrhea, ear infections, bladder infections, pneumonia, salmonella infection, E. coli. It is often combined with other dugs to treat other conditions such as stomach ulcers caused by Helicobacter pylori infection (with clarithromycin) and reduce the amounts of stomach acid produced by your body (lansoprazole). If you are allergic to this drug or any other penicillin antibiotics, such as ampicillin, carbenicillin, dicloxacillin, oxacillin, penicillin do not take Amoxil to avoid unwanted symptoms. Discuss your current health condition with your doctor to make sure the dosage you are prescribed is accurate and you will benefit from it.
You need to mention the fact of having a bleeding disorder, blood clotting disorder, mononucleosis, liver or kidney disease, asthma. This medicine has been reported to make birth control pills less effective. Make sure you use an additional non-hormonal method of birth control when taking Amoxil. Your symptoms may improve significantly only after a few days, but it does not mean the infection has been completely treated. Amoxil is not intended for the treatment of flu or common cold (viral infections).
